The Watchtower of the Harz
The Bismarck Tower towers over Bad Lauterberg at a height of 536 metres and offers a breathtaking view of the Oder Valley and the Oder Dam. The observation tower, which you can of course climb for free, was built at the beginning of the 20th century in honour of Otto von Bismarck and is now a popular destination for mountain bikers. The forest restaurant right next door invites you to take a break, while the small raccoon enclosure provides an animal highlight.
What awaits you when you climb the Bismarck Tower!
The rise
The 3.3-kilometer climb to the Bismarck Tower begins in Bad Lauterberg and leads along a gravel path that rewards you with wonderful views of the town and the deciduous forest. Although the path is short, there are some steep sections in places that will demand a lot of effort from you. But the panoramic view from the tower makes every meter of altitude worthwhile.
The farewell
from the Bismarck Tower begins with a short, challenging trail that takes you down to Bad Lauterberg. Immediately after that, you go downhill over one of the steepest road sections before you finally arrive back in Bad Lauterberg. From there, the path takes you further through the town until you set off for the next climb.
