The mountain for summiteers
The Wurmberg, with its 971 meters above sea level, is the highest mountain in Lower Saxony and a must for every ambitious mountain biker. The climb is a challenge that will push you to your limits. With every meter, the anticipation of the moment when you stand at the top and have the world at your feet grows.
Once you reach the top, an unforgettable experience awaits you. A futuristic observation tower invites you to look out over the vastness of the Harz Mountains. Dare to slide down the unique slide and be enchanted by the view. Afterwards, you can relax in the cozy mountain hut and enjoy the regional cuisine.
The Wurmberg as a witness of time
The Wurmberg, a border mountain with a turbulent history, was once the scene of spectacular winter sports events. In the 1920s, an impressive ski jump stood on its summit, attracting winter sports enthusiasts from all over Germany. The jump was more than just a sports facility; it was a symbol of adventure and courage. But time inexorably gnawed away at the structure. In 2014, it had to be demolished for safety reasons. Today, only the new observation tower reminds us of the turbulent past of the mountain, which has marked the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt for centuries and has witnessed numerous historical events.
What awaits you when you climb the Wurmberg!
The Uphill
The climb to Wurmberg is a real monster for nerves and endurance. First, the paved path with its extremely steep passages and treacherous grooves will push your sense of balance to the limit. But the finale is tough: a permanently steep and loose surface will challenge your technique and endurance. There is no shame in pushing the bike here. At the top, however, you will be rewarded with the summit tower and a fantastic view - an unforgettable experience!
The Downhill
The descent from Wurmberg is the well-deserved reward for the effort of the climb. The steep, loose ground now becomes an exciting trail that challenges your skills and is pure joy at the same time. Be careful not to use the roller track and remain cautious as the ground can be unpredictable. After this section, the path leads back to the old Plattenweg border path for a short stretch. But don't worry - you'll soon be back in the forest, where the descent becomes gentler and you can enjoy the feeling of being back in the tour.
