adventure and view
For all mountain bikers looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush, the Große Knollen is just the thing! The climb may be tough, but the view from the summit is worth every drop of sweat. From up there you have a phenomenal view over the Harz and even as far as Göttingen. On your way to the 20-meter-high tower, which you can of course climb for free, you will be rewarded with one of the best views the Harz has to offer. Get ready for an unforgettable panorama that is guaranteed to motivate you to conquer a few more meters in altitude.
A tower with history
The Knollentrum is more than just a lookout point - it is a piece of history. During World War II it served as a watchtower and was used to monitor the region. The tower served an important function, similar to the old lighthouses of Minas Tirith, which gave signals in times of danger - only here there are no orcs and dragons in sight! Today the tower is a silent witness to the past and offers a fascinating view of the surrounding area.
What awaits you when you climb the Great Knollen!
The rise
The climb from St. Andreasberg to the Knollenturm takes you through hilly terrain, which always makes for exciting ascents and descents. The view over the Harz is a delight every time. But just before the finish it gets really steep - here you have to use your lowest gear! The gravelly surface is easy to ride on and takes you safely to the tower, which you can see coming towards you from afar. The climb is worth it: once you reach the top, a spectacular panorama of the entire Harz awaits you.
The farewell
First you glide over the mountain tops and enjoy impressive views of the vast Harz forests. But then you dive into a mysterious, dense deciduous forest that exudes a very special atmosphere. The path is extremely flowing and lets you feel the beauty of the Harz with every turn. The long descent is relaxed and allows you to experience all the advantages of this region once again as you slowly reach Bad Lauterberg.
